Thanks for joining me! Today on a whim – and somewhat surprised it was available – I paid for rights to my “onehutmama” domain name. One Hut Mama evolved more than a year ago from my notion that one day, when I’m too old or unable to trek on trails, that I might like to be a hut host . . . perhaps that person who has a hot meal and cold beer ready for weary trekkers after a long day on a trail? Who knows what the future holds, but it’s a thought!
I love this photo of the Maroon Bells in the Elk Mountains about 12 miles south of Aspen.
I have hiked twice now in this area, in late July 2015 and 2016, with my dear friend Evette. We trekked along the West Maroon Pass trail and into the Crested Butte area, about an 11-mile spectacular wildflower hike. Because I love maps, here’s a simplified one of the hike:
While I’m not sure exactly at this moment the direction I’m taking this blog, what I do know is I intend to live the rest of my life boldly and gratefully (like many of you) as opposed to quietly and gracefully. And I’m thinking we all have a story or two to share? I look forward to getting to know you!
The quote below is my most favorite quote ever. When I die, I would like a memory bench placed somewhere on a beautiful trail with this quote on it.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
– a famous Chinese proverb
Karla-hiking the trail from Aspen to Crested Butte-twice-are truly some of my best times! It is always great spending time with you, and experiencing the beautiful scenery of this hike was a bonus!!! Love you, my dear friend!!

Hey OHM. Great idea for a blog from a OHP (One Hut Papa) and a fellow West Marion Creek finisher!

Great idea! You’d be a natural at being a host. Are there family discount rates? If not, I’ll make a reservation anyway. 😏
